Notes on John Barleycorn

Comments:

This is #58 in Sharp's Folk Songs from Somerset series (the third). Sharp and Marson got the tune from Mr. Robert Pope, of Alcombe, Dunster. The words were "compiled by Mr. Marson from many sources". Possible sources (as mentioned in the notes) include; "Bell's Ballads and Songs of the Peasantry of England, p. 80; Jamieson's Popular Ballads, Vol II, p. 240; Mr. Brimley Johnson's Popular British Ballads, Vol III, 39; on broadsheets by Such, Jackson, and others, and elsewhere".

Regarding the arrangement, I have taken the liberty of removing the piano accompaniment and only providing the air for one verse.
